Academics
Curriculum
At ESD European School, our academic program is built on a European curriculum framework inspired by the official educational standards of Spain, England, and France. This approach ensures a rigorous, internationally recognized education for students from Pre-School through 12th Grade.
Students learn in a multilingual and multicultural environment, guided by experienced Dominican and international teachers. Our curriculum blends the strengths of European educational traditions: strong foundations in reading and writing, structured academic progression, high expectations, and deep conceptual understanding.
Learning at ESD takes place in small groups, through books, dialogue, problem-solving, and hands-on activities, all within a screen-free environment that supports focus, independence, and genuine intellectual development. We believe that true learning happens through human connection, curiosity, and meaningful practice—not through excessive digital reliance.
Our curriculum prepares students to think critically, to communicate fluently in multiple languages (English, Spanish, and French), and to meet the academic expectations of leading European and international education systems. This strong foundation enables our students to transition confidently to schools and universities around the world.
At ESD European School, our Early Childhood program offers a warm, structured, and human-centered environment where young children learn through movement, language, exploration, and emotional connection. Designed for families seeking a high-quality preschool in Cabarete–Sosúa, our approach is fully screen-free and rooted in books, hands-on activities, and meaningful daily routines that help children feel safe, confident, and curious.
Each day includes emotional check-ins, early language development, outdoor motor play, music, storytelling, sensory workshops, early numeracy, arts and crafts, and exploration of the natural world. Children also benefit from guided free play, healthy hygiene habits, and peaceful moments with calming music—supporting their overall emotional and cognitive development.
Our Early Childhood program is taught entirely in Spanish by a certified Dominican Early Childhood educator, offering children a strong emotional and linguistic foundation in their host country.
Bilingual education (English–Spanish) begins in First Grade, at the developmental stage when students are ready to engage successfully in multilingual learning.
Designed for expat families and local families alike, our preschool program provides a nurturing start that prioritizes human connection, imagination, and real childhood—long before screens become part of their world.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (1st to 6th grade)
At ESD European School, our Elementary program offers a rich bilingual international education where students grow academically, socially, and emotionally within a structured, caring, and screen-free environment. Designed for families seeking a high-quality bilingual elementary school in Cabarete–Sosúa, our program integrates strong academics with human-centered teaching.
Beginning in 1st Grade, students learn in both Spanish and English. Some subjects are taught in Spanish and others in English, depending on the teacher’s language and academic expertise. Daily Schedule
At ESD European School, our daily routine is designed to create stability, focus, and a healthy rhythm of learning for all students.
Students arrive between 8:00 and 8:15 a.m. and go directly to their classroom, where teachers welcome them and begin the day with attendance and settling-in routines.
Each morning also includes a recess period, giving students time to move, play outdoors, and recharge.
After morning classes, students enjoy a break for lunch followed by a short hygiene routine.
The afternoon continues with a mix of academic classes, workshops, project-based learning, arts, or physical education—depending on the grade level.
A second recess later in the day helps students stay energized and focused for the final learning block.
The school day ends at 3:00 p.m.
Students are picked up directly by their parents or taken home by the school bus.
